Advising and Field Placement Changes on the Schaumburg Campus

I am writing to let all students know about some important and permanent changes to advising and field placement that will take place on the Schaumburg campus effective January 6, 2014.  These changes are an effort to significantly improve the quality of responsiveness to students and communication with respect to observation and student teaching placements.

Effective January 6, our Assistant Dean for Student Services, Laura Lag, will move her office to the Schaumburg campus and will be available to Schaumburg students and faculty on a full-time basis, Monday through Friday.  Laura will replace Ligia Amarei as the professional advisor for all undergraduate students studying at the Schaumburg campus.  Graduate students formerly advised by Ligia Amarei will be served by faculty in the programs.  Please visit the College of Education advising website for more information about the faculty to contact if you are a graduate student in need of advising or assistance.

In addition to taking on Schaumburg undergraduate advising responsibilities, and continuing in her role as licensure officer for the entire College of Education, Laura also will lead our field placement efforts in Schaumburg. Under her leadership, our approach to field placements will be made more efficient and effective, so that Schaumburg students receive information about their placements in a timely manner.  A new, full-time clerical staff member will be hired in order to assist Laura in this effort and in the completion of her advising responsibilities.

Undergraduate students in need of advising and students with field placement questions should contact Brittany Carlsen to set up an appointment or receive immediate assistance.  Brittany's email is and her phone is 847-619-8820.

Graduate students in need of advising should contact Nancy Sondy for assistance or to set up an appointment with their faculty advisor.  Nancy can be reached at or at 847-619-8833.
