Assistant Teacher Job Opportunity in Chicago


Cool Classics! is an after-school program that uses classic books to connect children to
a unified world of reading, art, culture, humanities and ideas. Created by an awardwinning
journalist, this nonprofit is committed to improving literacy among low-income
elementary school students, expanding their sense of arts and culture, creating readers
and critical thinkers and serving schools that have lost arts and culture programs and
are overwhelmed by demands of test-driven curricula. We aim to improve participants’
reading comprehension, analytic skills and build lasting communities of our students,
their families, teachers and school administrators to insure success as they continue
their education throughout their lives.

Schedule: Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays

Hours of Operation: After-school hours vary from school to school based on dismissal
time. Successful candidate will work up to 15 hours per week. The assistant teacher needs to
be committed to work schedule created by Cool Classics! administrators.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Work under the direction of the Lead Teacher
• Serve as the assistant to the Lead Teacher for a group of 20-25 K through 3rd
grade students
• Use the Cool Classics! curricula to help Lead Teacher with lively sessions as
designed by the Lead Teacher to include

Location:  Various Chicago public and charter schools on the south and north sides. If public
transportation is not an option, arrangements for other transportation to the work site
may be available.
