BJ Wagner and John R. Martins
Two professors retired from the College of Education recently passed away.
Betty Jane Wagner, Professor Emerita in the College of Education, and a highly valued member of the Language and Literacy Program, died on Thursday, Dec. 12. BJ was a co-founder and director of the Chicago Area Writing Project, a professional development organization for K-12 teachers of writing, and one of the most influential teacher educators in the entire country with respect to literacy education and the professional growth and development of teachers. BJ is survived by all three of her children. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 22 at the Unitarian Church of Evanston, 1330 Ridge Ave.
John R. Martins, Emeritus Professor of Counseling and Human Services in the College of Education, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 17. John was a long-time faculty member and program director in Counseling, and was widely respect for his excellent teaching and his selfless and cheerful devotion to others. A celebration of his life will be planned for a later date. Condolences may be sent to his family at the following address:
