As was previously announced, effective January 6, 2014, Laura Lag will be responsible for all Schaumburg field placements. This change will make possible another change: starting on the same date, Geraldine Chavers, the College of Education's field placement coordinator, will focus her efforts almost entirely on the Chicago campus. Both Ms. Lag and Ms. Chavers will report directly to the Interim Dean of the College of Education, Tom Philion, and they each will have full-time clerical support to help them facilitate their field placements.
As also was recently communicated, Laura Lag will take on undergraduate advising responsibilities in Schaumburg, and faculty will take on graduate advising responsibilities. Although there are no long-term changes to advising in Chicago, Lily Castillo will be on maternity leave starting January 6, and continuing through April 7, 2014.
These changes reflect both routine human developments (the birth of a child) and a desire to improve the quality and timeliness of our advising and field placement processes at each campus. Both Ms. Lag and Ms. Chavers will have greater focus in their work and responsibilities, and greater accountability for their performance. Our goal for Spring 2014 is to have all students started in their observation requirements before spring break, and all students registered for summer and fall courses by the end of the semester.
Student satisfaction and success is the highest priority objective of the College of Education. If you have an idea for an improvement that we can make, please comment on this post, or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
