COE Programs Receive Race To The Top Funding for Program Improvement

On January 30, the Early Childhood Program was notified that it has been selected as a recipient of an Early Childhood Educator Preparation Program Innovation Grant.  The grant award is in the amount of $45,000 for the period February 1, 2014 through December 15, 2014.  The money will be used to update curriculum and build stronger relationships with transfer institutions such as Harold Washington and Harper community colleges.  The grant is funded through federal monies from the Race to the Top --- Early Learning Challenge and will catalyze collaboration among several institutions of higher education in the Chicago area.

In November 2013, the English and Math secondary education programs also received notification from the Illinois State Board of Education that they had been selected as recipients of an award in the amount of $20,313 as a part of the Race to the Top III, Federal Teacher Preparation Program Redesign Grant.  The award will assist faculty in the programs with the incorporation of the Common Core State Standards into required courses.  The Race to the Top III, Federal Teacher Preparation Program Redesign Grant has been approved for funding for three fiscal years and may be renewed thereafter.
