I am pleased to announce that the College of Education will again host a Summer Teaching Institute for teachers from the city of Madrid, Spain. Official approval was received last week from Spain's Regional Ministry for Education, Youth, and Sport. This is the 6th consecutive year in which the College of Education has been selected to host a summer institute for teachers from Madrid.
The goal of the institute is to improve the English language and teaching skills of twenty five secondary school teachers from Madrid, Spain. This year, the twenty five teachers will participate in intensive training and courses from June 27th through July 25th, while staying in homes throughout the Chicago area. All courses will take place on the 7th floor of the Gage Building. Erin Mackinney, assistant professor of ESL and bilingual education, will lead the training in collaboration with faculty from other parts of the university and Chicago area schools and districts.
The COE's Office of Community Engagement is responsible for this program, and deserves kudos for once again putting together an outstanding proposal.
