With deep regret, I am writing to share that Clem Rollins passed away last night at Elmhurst Hospital. Clem had a heart attack last Friday afternoon, at a church retreat, and never recovered.
Clem was hired at Roosevelt in December of 1987. Though she worked as a secretary in admission and the lawyers’ assistant program (paralegal studies), Clem spent the majority of her Roosevelt career in the College of Education (since November, 1997). Here, Clem facilitated the placement of teacher candidates and student teachers in Chicago area schools, and worked diligently—and without fanfare—to meet the needs of students, faculty and administrators. Clem was an exceptional listener, and kept an even keel in all situations. Her good humor, generosity and mentorship of all who worked with her will long be remembered.
Clem is a long-time dedicated member of South Park Baptist Church on the city’s south side. Her free time was devoted to singing in the church’s choir and coordinating events. A wonderful way to remember Clem is to watch this video here: https://youtu.be/pFn8wn7UtKQ.
Clem is married to Jeff Rollins and has three children (James, Jakeeva, and Justin) and three grandchildren (Ja’maya, JB, and Jraya).
Details about Clem’s memorial service and funeral are in process, and will be shared as soon as they are available.
